Spring Tease
California does this in January - teasing us with mild temps and milt to warm sun mid-morning until the sun disappears from sight. Then Winter comes back and laughs at us, with grey, wind, cold, and occasional hail. I first noticed this when I started getting in to gardening.
Each place I've gardened has had its own microclimate. Here by the creek, the air is a bit more moist and cool than average. Even when the temps top 100 in the summer, a cool breath of air comes up off the mostly dry creek bed.
The overabundance of rain at the end of November into December drowned my chrysanthemums, but my herbs are recovering. The jasmine is gleefully seeking to conquer new frontiers along the south and west exposures. I am considering moving the cherry tree to get more sunlight, setting up planters to create structure in a wild rectangle of weeds, gravel, and gardening detrius. I am enjoying the preview while I can.
